Junior Olympics

Program Philosophy Regarding Junior Olympics
Sacramento Water Polo attempts to participate in the USA Water Polo National Junior Olympic Championship Tournament every summer.  Any club team that wants to participate in the USA WP NJO tourney must qualify through their respective zone qualifying tournament.  The Central California Zone qualifying tournament is always the last weekend in June.  It is mandatory that every Sacramento Water Polo athlete wishing to travel to the USA Water Polo National Junior Olympic Championship tournament participate in the CCWP zone qualifying tournament (2008:  At Tokay HS).

The SWP roster is typically limited to twelve athletes --- that includes the goalie.  That team rosters are selected by the SWP coaching staff and are made up of athletes that are part of the SWP club.  We will not take an "area all-star" team.  SWP is committed to taking both boys and girls teams to the USA Water Polo National Junior Olympic Championship Tournament in all age divisions:  18U, 16U, 14U, 12U.

Rules of Conduct:
a) First and foremost; athlete safety and accountability are factors when thinking about team travel and overnight hotel stay.

b) Athletes staying with parents: Once we reach curfew, athletes are to be in the room and under the supervision of their parents. There can be no exception to this. Any scenario other than this places the coaching staff and Sacramento Water Polo in an unacceptable situation.

c) The coaching staff has the sole responsibility of assigning team rooms and supervising those team rooms. Athletes will not switch team rooms because they want to room with their best friend on the team.

d) Curfew will be set for a reasonable hour and enforced by the coaching staff. Athletes breaking curfew will face disciplinary action once we return to Sacramento. The athlete may be sent home immediately if deemed necessary and appropriate.

e) No fraternization between genders inside hotel rooms. Any social visiting between genders will take place in the hallway outside the hotel room - - or in the hotel lobby. There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule.

f) No congregating of large groups inside a single hotel room unless there is a team meeting being held or a special circumstance has been approved by the coaching staff.

g) No “field trips”. If an athlete leaves the hotel in order to go get some food, something to drink, etc. he must have the permission of the coaching staff and he must travel with a minimum of three teammates.

h) The hotel pool / jacuzzi are always off-limits to athletes.
