During the Winter / Spring months, Sacramento Water Polo participates in the Premier League as sponsored by the Central California Water Polo Zone. The Sac Polo Premier League roster is selected by Coach Smith and Coach Hastie and is limited to a select number of athletes. It is mandatory that the Sac Polo Premier League team members be swimming on the swim team. It is expected that all team members will participate in every single Premier League Tournament. The Premier League tournament dates are as follows:
May 5th / 6th: PREMIER LEAGUE CANCELLED THIS WEEKEND. IT WILL NOT BE RE-SCHEDULED. CANCELLED BECAUSE WE HAVE SWIM SECTION CHAMPIONSHIPS THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND.
Roster: Cody Ankrim, Watson Barry, Nick Deis, Sam Deterding, Peter Ferguson, Chris Fitsos, Joe Frech, Mike Giancanelli, Neil Hagen, Zach Heinzer, Mike Ishiura, Jon Leopold, Matt Murbach, Sean Patterson, Jamie Savant, Chad Viergever, Matt Vowell. Athletes are required to be swimming on the high school swim team and are expected to participate in every single Premier League Tournament.
WHAT IS THE PREMIER LEAGUE?
Based upon the European model for developmental water polo, each zone within USA Water Polo sponsors a Premier League - - eventually crowning a USA Water Polo Premier League Champion. There are two divisions within the Premier League. The purpose of the Premier League is to develop our best young water polo players. USA Water Polo clubs are selected by the zone to participate in the league. There will be some community college and 1st year college water polo players participating in the Division II Premier League. The Division I Premier League is as close to the European “professional” water polo as we get here in the USA. No; our Division I players do not get paid . . . The Premier League provides our younger athletes with the opportunity to participate against stronger, experienced players, be seen by local college coaches, and gives our zone coaches that are selecting the respective zone teams an opportunity to scout.
